Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil – While the 2017 International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta, U.S., hosts the largest gathering of poultry professionals from around the world, the Aviagen Latin America team also seized an opportunity to get together and share latest developments with valued customers, distributors and friends from their home region. On Jan. 31, the team hosted 170 Latin American customers for its traditional IPPE dinner on the rooftop of Ventanas restaurant at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel.
During the event, Aviagen recognized an important milestone for two members of the Latin American family. Ullrich Koehler, former Aviagen business manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Ricardo Valle, former regional technical manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, have both retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service to the company.
Ullrich and Ricardo, both respected and beloved members of the team, were honored with speeches by both current and former members of the Aviagen Latin America team, as well as Bob Dobbie, Aviagen president of International Business; Ian Panton, former Aviagen CEO; and David Reed, Steve Passarello and Paul Cohen, former members of the Latin American team.
Succeeding the retirement of Ullrich and Ricardo, Aviagen Latin America will continue its excellent service to customers with a new organizational structure:
- Juan Diez has become Aviagen’s business manager for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Diez joined Aviagen in 2001, and brings to the team years of broiler/breeding experience, as well as a background in accounting and finance.
- Luis Cesio serves as business manager for Aviagen South America excluding Brazil. Outside of his extensive poultry breeding experience gained by working for Aviagen since 1999, he has a background in agronomy engineering and has worked with two of Argentina’s major poultry companies.
- Abilio Alessandri, business manager for Brazil, came on board with the Aviagen team in 2012. His background is in veterinary science and he holds a master of Business Administration degree. He has worked in the poultry industry since 2001 for companies such as Pharmacia, Pfizer and Chr. Hansen in Brazil.
- Jose Juan Bruzual, regional technical manager for Aviagen Latin America, joined the company in 2009. He has amassed considerable expertise in veterinary medicine and management through his experience with Protinal, Purina in Venezuela, as well as Perdue Farms and Embrex (now Zoetis), among other companies in the U.S.
“We were pleased to host this special event dedicated to two legends in Latin America: Ullrich Koehler and Ricardo Valle. Both of these outstanding men are well known for their poultry breeding expertise, their technical and commercial knowledge and most importantly, their ability to connect with the customers and people behind the birds,” said Ivan Lauandos, president of Aviagen in Latin America.
Beyond IPPE, Aviagen Latin America will look forward to the Aviagen Training Conference-Latin America (ATC-LA), a technical event occurring March 20-24 in Atlanta, as well as the next Salão Internacional de Avicultura e Suinocultura (SIAVS), a poultry and swine event to be held in Brazil in August and the Latin American Congress in Guadalajara, Mexico, planned for September.
“IPPE was a great success for Aviagen as a whole, providing invaluable opportunities to strengthen relationships with our customers and colleagues from all corners of the globe. For Latin America, it was particularly gratifying, as we were able to honor influential members of our team upon their retirement, while hosting a special dinner for our highly regarded customers. We’re tremendously thankful to all who attended and always make the dinner a regular part of their show agenda,” said Lauandos.
